$24 Million Boost for Northern Territory Infrastructure and Community Development

The Australian Government is investing over $24 million in key infrastructure and community projects across the Northern Territory, supporting regional growth, liveability, and economic development.

The funding will deliver essential upgrades to housing, tourism precincts, community spaces, and road infrastructure, ensuring long-term benefits for communities across the NT.

A major investment of $7 million will go towards enabling infrastructure to facilitate the construction of up to 730 homes and parklands within the Katherine East Neighbourhood Centre, providing essential support for future residential and commercial development in the region.

Additionally, $4.8 million from the Growing Regions Program will expand the Ngurratjuta Service Hub, improving facilities that support local services and economic opportunities. The Urapuntja Splash Park will receive $1.1 million to install new splash pads, interactive water features, and shaded picnic areas, enhancing recreational opportunities for families in the region.

As part of ongoing efforts to boost regional tourism and community development, the Nitmiluk Tourism Services Precinct will receive $4 million from the Regional Precincts and Partnerships Program to develop a master plan for key infrastructure upgrades, ensuring a sustainable and improved visitor experience.

A further $4.7 million has been allocated to the Central Australian Regional Community Precincts, supporting planning and design work for community hubs in Ti Tree, Atitjere, Santa Teresa, Papunya, Yuendumu, and Ntaria.

Road safety remains a key priority, with $1.9 million committed to upgrading sections of the Willowra main access road, improving accessibility and safety for remote communities. In addition, $800,000 will fund critical safety upgrades at the Gorrie Road railway level crossing near Mataranka, including new flashing lights and a train detection system.

This latest investment in NT infrastructure is part of the Australian Government’s broader commitment to strengthening regional communities, enhancing liveability, and driving long-term economic growth. These projects will not only improve essential services and facilities but also generate jobs and support local businesses.
