Regional Development Australia Northern Territory (RDA NT) is pleased to announce the appointment of the Hon Kon Vatskalis as the new Chair of the RDA NT Committee. With a deep understanding of regional development and a strong commitment to advancing the prosperity of Northern Territory regional communities, Mr Vatskalis is well-positioned to lead the organisation.
Mr Vatskalis succeeds Drew Wagner, who provided outstanding leadership and dedication to the committee since January 2021. Under his stewardship, RDA NT has successfully fostered regional partnerships, supported local industries, and contributed to initiatives that promote economic growth and community development. Drew’s leadership helped strengthen collaboration across government, business, and community sectors, leaving a positive impact on the organisation and the region.
Bringing a wealth of experience in government, community development, and public service, Darwin Lord Mayor Vatskalis is committed to fostering economic growth, supporting local businesses, and advocating for strategic regional initiatives that will enhance the region’s liveability and sustainability.
“I am honoured to take on this role and look forward to working closely with the committee, stakeholders, and the broader community to drive opportunities for growth and resilience in the Northern Territory,” Mr Vatskalis said. “RDA NT plays an important role in supporting regional industries, workforce, and infrastructure, and I am committed to ensuring it continues to create a strong and sustainable future.”
As part of a national network of 50 RDA committees supported by the Australian Government’s Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts, RDA NT plays an important role in connecting businesses, government, and community organisations to support economic development and investment in the Northern Territory.
Quotes attributable to Federal Minister for Regional Development, Kristy McBain MP:
“I congratulate new and returning RDA chairs, who will work closely with their community, local businesses and all levels of government to drive growth and development in their regions.
“With more than $117 million from the Australian Government set to flow across all of the RDA committees over the next five years, it is an exciting time for the new and returning chairs, as they’ll have the opportunity to work with their members to set the future agendas for their RDAs.
“We recognise the importance of local leaders supporting our work to Build Australia’s Future, which is why I look forward to working with RDAs into the future.”
