The Remote High Speed Wireless Technology Pilot is a pioneering project. This initiative of the Northern RDA Alliance represents a partnership between RDA NT, RDA Kimberley, Central Desert Regional Council, and Distant Curve.
The project involved connection of two remote Indigenous communities (Engawala and Atitjere) to Nextgen fibre via long-distance point-to-point microwave technology. It demonstrates the potential of low-cost, small-scale telecommunication solutions for remote regions in some of the NT’s smallest communities.
The infrastructure phase is complete and learnings are being disseminated. In the longer term more competitive telecommunications will drive regional development outcomes.
