Baniyala-Art-Studio

Baniyala Art Studio

Bäniyala is a Yolŋu homeland of approximately 150 situated on Blue Mud Bay in the Gulf of Carpentaria. The Bäniyala Garrangali Aboriginal Corporation secured funding in Round 1 of the Seeding Fund to design a remote art studio to enhance their ability to craft artwork, reflect their culture and history, and share their stories with Yolŋu and tourists. The planned design includes indoor and outdoor working areas for art production, digital resources to enhance visitor engagement, and areas for performance. These features aim to boost economic outcomes through increased production and tourism.

With a $47,000 grant, the project advanced with architectural and engineering designs, bringing it one step closer to being ‘shovel ready’. Although an application to the Building Better Regions Fund was unsuccessful, they later secured funding from the Aboriginal Benefits Account to further progress the project.
