Seeing New Investment Fund
Walangeri Ngumpinku, the current owner and operator of the 8-room Walangeri Motel in Yarralin, is seeking to expand its accommodation facilities to meet the growing demand from guests, service providers, and tourists. The existing motel, featuring 8 rooms with King single beds, ensuites, a laundry room, and kitchen, experiences consistent full occupancy, particularly during the dry season. However, this limited capacity hampers the ability to accommodate all guests, impacting service delivery to the Yarralin community and resulting in missed economic opportunities. Furthermore, the existing rooms are unsuitable for tourists or long-term stays due to the absence of Queen size double beds and sufficient space, leading to turned away travellers and increased costs for families or couples requiring multiple rooms. Additionally, the small rooms are not conducive to long-term stays, affecting potential revenue from extended guest stays.
With support of a $49,045 grant from the Seeding New Investment Fund, the project aims to design and develop architectural drawings and plans for a proposed 20+ room motel within the Yarralin community. These plans will serve as the foundation for seeking quotes and funding from various funding programs to finance the construction of the expanded motel facilities.
The expansion of the Walangeri Motel in Yarralin is crucial to meet the growing demand for accommodation, improve service delivery to the community, and create economic opportunities for the local Indigenous population.
